Boris Champy 2022

Boris Champy 2022

Boris Champy has now become a fixture of the Burgundy scene as he has firmly established his wines as some of the best value wines of the region, all from his modest Nantoux domaine in in the Hautes Côtes.

Most Burgundy lovers are by now familiar how he transitioned from being a respected winemaker and manager at Lambrays, Louis Latour and Dominus to owning his own domaine which he bought from Didier Montchovet.

Montchovet was the man who taught DRC, Leflaive and Leroy how to grow biodynamically… so the vines that Boris has been working with are in perfect condition. The estate is a true pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy, certified by Ecocert and Demeter.

The domaine is really starting to make waves, with Wine-Lister recently naming as one of it’s 5 domaines to watch (from anywhere in the world, not just Burgundy). The French newspaper Le Figaro last week called it a domaine where ratings/prices should explode higher.

As William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) said “In short, we appear to be witnessing the overnight emergence of a new reference-point producer, and I encourage readers to take notice.”

“Champy is a good example of how a talented and driven winemaker doesn’t need a bundle of Grand Crus in order to make a name for himself.”Neil Martin

His wines that we consumed over the past few years have always left us with a big smile, and we’ve been very happy to hear from all the clients who have given us very positive feedback on the wines they opened.

The 2022s will again give you that sensation of high class Burgundy, and all this for prices which are simply unmatchable anywhere in the Côtes. Furthermore, the prices of the 2022 are exactly the same as 2021, which we can all appreciate!

There is one new wine this year, an Hautes Côtes white made using the Presse Verticale. He can only make a limited quantity of these wines using his old fashioned vertical press as the pressing takes 6 hours. Both the Aligoté and Hautes Côtes White Presse Verticale are crystal clean and more intense that the already delicious “normal press” whites.

“I began the day with an 8 a.m. rendezvous in the vineyards above Nantoux, as Boris was very keen to show me the qualities of the viticulture which he has put in place over the last three years. It is true that his vines looked in excellent condition, with very even canopies, a consistent picture from one row to the next. He is now using a green cover crop, and running sheep through the vines to maintain control. Everything he does is super-meticulous, whether in the vines, or in the cellar. His 2022s are mostly very fine indeed.”Jasper Morris MW
