Fuligni 2019

Fuligni 2019

The Fuligni estate is synonymous with high quality Brunello. Founded in 1923, the estate is managed by Maria Fuligni and her nephew, Roberto, who looks after the vineyards. Just a couple of miles northeast of Montalcino, the 12 hectares of Fuligni’s vineyards are planted at between 350 and 450 metres, allowing the fruit to retain acidity even in the warmest of vintages. Stylistically, the wines here are made in a more traditional way, mostly matured in large oak botti with little new oak employed, leading to impressive ageworthy Brunello of understated elegance. As Eric Guido of Vinous stated: In my opinion, the Brunello produced at this address are some of the classiest, most refined and long-aging wines being made in Montalcino today.”

Ian D’Agata

Pale medium red. Penetrating aromas of sweet blonde tobacco, red cherry, crystallized raspberry, vanilla and black pepper. Elegant full and rich on the palate, with a touch of youthfully chewy oak that will need a few years to resolve fully, but there s so much fruit crammed into every glass here that I have no doubt this will develop very nicely. A beautiful Brunello that closes long, dense and suave, this is another winner of the 2019 vintage. Drinking window: 2029-2042. 98 Points, Ian D Agata [Ian D’Agata, 01/03/2024]

Dusty and floral, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a perfumed blend of dried roses, cherries, mint and lavender candies. It s elegant and seamlessly silky on the palate, enveloping the senses with ripe red berry fruits contrasted by a bitter clove tinge. A core of brisk acidity maintains a lovely balance as a web of fine tannins saturates the palate, and a pleasantly chewy sensation remains. The 2019 is classic to the core. [Eric Guido, 07/12/2023]

Anticipated maturity: 2027-2040

Showing the intensity and concentration of the vintage but also the finesse that s the hallmark of this storied estate, the 2019 Fuligni is a stunner. It opens with aromas of camphor, violet, dog rose and spice while the full-bodied, enveloping palate delivers succulent black cherry, crushed raspberry, dried mint and licorice alongside velvety tannins. Boasting a weightless elegance, it closes on a note of almond liqueur. 97 Points, Kerin O Keefe [01/01/2024]
