The roots of Domaine Anne Gros trace back to 1830, when Alphonse Gros laid the foundation in Vosne-Romanée. His son, Louis-Gustave, etched a significant mark in the 1890s by becoming one of the first Burgundian producers to bottle and sell wines directly to private clients. His legacy, however, took an unexpected turn in 1951.The inheritance was divided amongst his four children, resulting in the creation of four distinct estates – a testament to the ever-present influence of family lineage in the Burgundian winemaking landscape.

One branch of this familial tree led to François Gros, Anne's father. Born in 1931, François was initially destined for a different path. He earned a diploma from the prestigious Dijon School of Commerce, initially assisting his brothers and sister in the family business by managing the financial aspects. However, fate intervened. In 1963, the Domaine Gros underwent a significant restructuring, leading François to establish his own independent estate in 1970. Starting from scratch with just 3 hectares of vines, François built his own winery and embarked on a négociant venture, selling his wines directly to customers visiting the region. These were sold under the labels "François Gros" and "Gros père et fils." However, by 1978, health concerns forced François to scale back operations. The négociant business folded, and for a decade, the estate's activities dwindled.

It was at this pivotal moment in 1988 that Anne Gros, François's only daughter, stepped forward. With unwavering determination and a deep love for the land, she embarked on a journey of revitalization. Partnering with her father under the name "Anne et François Gros," she charted a new course. Anne, then only 25 years old, displayed a remarkable combination of youthful vigor and seasoned wisdom. She oversaw the entire operation while François meticulously tended to the diverse vineyard parcels.

Anne's journey, however, was not without its challenges. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, she had to prove herself. Yet, her passion for viticulture, coupled with her talent, sensitivity, and professionalism, silenced any doubts. She not only possessed the physical strength to manage the estate but also the strategic vision to elevate her family's legacy to new heights.

Anne's philosophy is a beautiful blend of tradition and innovation. Deeply respectful of the Burgundian heritage, she emphasizes sustainable practices that preserve the biodiversity of the terroir. This translates into wines that are elegant, harmonious, and possess a captivating subtlety. The vinification process itself adheres to time-tested methods, utilizing temperature-controlled cement tanks for reds and stainless steel tanks for whites. Barrel aging plays a crucial role, with a significant percentage of new oak barrels employed to impart complexity, structure, and weight to the wines.

Domaine Anne Gros is more than just a winery; it's a family legacy passed down through generations. Today, the estate continues to thrive under Anne's watchful eye. In 2019, she entrusted the future of the Domaine to her three children - Julie, Paul, and Marine - ensuring the continuation of this exceptional lineage.

The story of Domaine Anne Gros is one of dedication, a constant pursuit of excellence, and the courage to break boundaries. It is a testament to the enduring power of family, tradition, and a deep respect for the land. As visitors explore the vineyards, delve into the cellars, and experience the exquisite wines produced by Domaine Anne Gros, they embark on a journey through time, etching their own memories into the tapestry of this remarkable estate.
