The tradition of the great wines of the Langhe proposed in a youthful and dynamic way. Azienda Vinicola Palladino combines the wisdom of its own history with the current trends, in order to ensure that the quality of a production strongly linked to the territory can be fully appreciated, both in Italy and abroad. The selection is exclusively Piedmontese denominations, vinified in purity.
FamilyPiero Palladino spent his youth in Alba, where he studied winemaking at the Istituto Enologico. He was employed as winemaker for a wine vendor in Biella, having moved there after the war. In the years following, his characterising resourcefulness led him to set up businesses in various sectors, before definitively arriving in the textile industry. However, wine remained his passion, one that he emphatically asserted at the first opportunity. In 1974, Piero bought the current Azienda Vinicola Palladino and entrusted its management to his cousin Maurilio, his subsequent business partner.
Maurilio Palladino, together with his wife Domenica, managed the company for years, drawing inspiration from the principle of fidelity to tradition and the characteristics of the territory. Today his experience is combined with the enthusiasm of the new generation, who help to manage the cellar and to continuously research new markets. They include Maurilio's granddaughter Veronica and her husband Alessandro and Margherita, Piero's granddaughter and daughter to Mauro Palladino, Maurilio's partner and cousin. Not to forget Luca and Matteo who provide invaluable help in the vineyard and in the wine cellar. WineryThe old wine cellar has been converted into a building in the centre of the town, where, since the late nineteenth century, wine and life have formed a steadfast binomial combination. The historical evidence has a strong presence, with a stone plaque embedded in the outer wall, bearing the date 1870, and the story of a bequest of 80,000 lire, money that was used by the former owners, it is assumed, for the production of wine.
The cellar consists of three interconnected departments to promote the various processing stages, three areas where the old and modern merge. Azienda Vinicola Palladino also adopt a working method which is connected to tradition in the wine cellar, utilising non-invasive technology and letting the wine best express its characteristics. The VineyardsThe Barolo production specifications stipulate that only 3 of the 11 municipalities which are identified as the area of origin of the Nebbiolo grapes, grown to produce Barolo wine, are suitable for the cultivation of vines throughout the entire country. Serralunga d'Alba is, of course, counted among these, reflecting the favourable weather conditions and the uniqueness of its terroir.
The hills feature optimal exposure, with very few shadowed areas, thanks to the daily accumulated sunshine, which guarantees an ideal microclimate for cultivating vines. Serralunga d'Alba, taking its name from the “lunga serra delle Langhe” (long greenhouse of the Langhe), hence forms its identity around a territory characterised by limestone-clay soil that gives wines great body, with vigorous yet balanced tannins and significant potential for ageing. |
