The 2022 Meursault Les Ravelles 1er Cru is another that feels a little oaky at the moment, touches of walnut oil and truffle emerging with time. The palate is marked by sour lemon on the entry, fine acidity, linear and strict, though missing the complexity of some of its peers. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

This is a tiny 1er Cru vineyard of only 1.2 hectares, surely one of Meursault s best-kept secrets. The average vine age is 60 years from this cool higher site. A very judicious use of oak with a mix of 1 to 4 year old barrels (no new oak). A detailed & finely nuanced Chardonnay & a very citrus driven expression of Meursault. Terrific energy, persistence & length. Les Ravelles is the furthest Premier Cru from the village itself, adjacent to the hamlet of Blagny and tucked up above the Puligny border. This is perhaps the reason for the dramatic and unique stance of this delicious wine.
There are two wines from this terrific estate that scored identical 18s, and the main difference between the two is that Les Ravelles is more forward and enticing right now, and Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Sous le Dos d Ane ( 320 per 6 bottles IB; 18+/20) is closed and introverted and will require at least four years to unravel (yes, that s a pun)! In a surprisingly short period, Chapelle de Blagny has become a must-buy Meursault producer. These bottles cost less than 70 all in, and I think this is a steal for this level of refinement.
