A month has gone by since we offered the Comtes BdB 2014, and it is now time to go larger!

Large formats are often considered better for Champagnes, or in general for wines meant for long bottle aging. The lower ratio of air to liquid slows down the oxidation process, allowing the wine to develop more complexity over a longer period.

The bubbles also benefit from the large-sized bottles, as those maintain higher pressure, building a more persistent and finer mousse, and a smoother, creamier mouthfeel.

Very few are made and these are difficult to get.

Comtes de Champagne is the ultimate expression of Taittinger. Made only in exceptional years from the best Grand Cru fruit and in small quantities from the first pressings. It is ‘La crème de la crème’, aged for 10 years before being released, and presented in 18th century antique style bottles.

The Chardonnay dominance provides for a style of elegance, delicacy and finesse which is recognised worldwide.

Taittinger is one of the few Champagne houses still owned and run by the family whose name is on the label. Their home in Reims sits atop miles of chalk tunnels – the 4th-century Saint Nicaise cellars – once owned by Benedictine monks. At 18 meters underground, this UNESCO World Heritage site provides ideal conditions for aging great Champagne.
