Following the September release of the 2022 Barbaresco, it’s now time for the highly anticipated Single Vineyard Baroli from Gaja: 2021 Sperss and 2021 Conteisa.

After almost a century of leadership in Barbaresco, the family extended their core philosophy of owning the land to ensure complete control over production, acquiring two key vineyards in Barolo communes. Gaja’s journey into world-class Barolo began with the 1988 Sperss, a single vineyard from Serralunga d’Alba, later joined by Conteisa, first released in 1996.

Conteisa comes from the renowned Cerequio vineyard in La Morra, located between the townships of La Morra and Serralunga d’Alba. The wine’s name, ‘Conteisa’—Piedmontese for the Italian word for contest or dispute—is a nod to the century-long contention between the two towns over this coveted cru.
